JONI GOODMAN

M.S.W.,L.S.W., M.S.M.,11th Judicial Circuit Guardian Ad Litem Program

Joni Goodman is the Executive Director of the Guardian Ad Litem Program (GAL) for the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida. GAL is an advocacy agency in Juvenile Court providing representation to abused and neglected children.

Ms. Goodman took control of the agency in 1982, when it had merely two staff members and a handful of volunteers. Presently, there are 30 staff, 450 lay

volunteer guardians ad litem, 200 pro bono attorneys and over 650 volunteer advocates. Through Ms. Goodman's leadership GAL has become a model for effective and innovative advocacy for abused children despite governmental constraints. In 1991, Ms. Goodman successfully led a candlelight march" of all Guardian Ad Litems in the State to protest the potential elimination of funding. For her tireless efforts, the judiciary enshrined Joni Goodman into the "Wall of Honor" at the Juvenile Court.

Ms. Goodman is married with two children. She is a graduate of the University of Colorado, University of Miami, Barry College of Social Work and Florida International University. Ms. Goodman served as Staff Director for the Florida Bar Commission for Children, a training specialist with the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services and a social worker for the Mental Health Administration and the Public Defender's Office.

Ms. Goodman serves on several boards that protect the rights of children.

David Wilson, president of Financial Services Organization, Inc., in Miami, has built a group of companies that provide investment strategy, insurance, pension, estate and tax planning, and real estate services to his scores of clients throughout the United States, including several prominent sports and entertainment figures and professionals.

He has founded and is president and CEO of Financial Services Organization and The Real Estate Resource Group and recently established a new company, Digital Net Lending, a commercial lending firm. In addition to his professional achievements during the past 20 years, Wilson has also built a distinguished record of community leadership. He is currently serving as finance chair of the board of directors of the Performing Arts Center Trust. As the chair of the finance committee, he oversees the $300 million budget for the PAC, under construction in mid-town Miami and scheduled to open in 2004. His interest in PAC grew through leadership positions in the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Miami.Wilson, a business graduate of the University of Miami, is also part of the team of alumni that has developed the UM Black Alumni Association. A recent reunion brought more than 200 attendees to the UM Coral Gables campus.After he earned his B.A. degree in finance from UM, Wilson attended the American College in Bryn Mawr, PA, obtaining status as a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU). Wilson continued to expand his education, earning his National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) series 7, 63 and 24 licenses to trade stocks, bonds, mutual funds and government securities in all 50 states and the ChFC designation as a chartered financial consultant. He also became a licensed real estate broker and received certification in life and health insurance.He established his real estate company in 1989, founded the financial planning company in 1994, and by 1990 had all earned all the major credentials available in the financial services industry. Wilson is a member of the UM Alumni Association board of directors and was recently appointed to the board of the UM Center of Adult Development and Aging. He is also a longtime member of the Miami chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, serving on the national economic development committee. He was president of the Beta Beta Lambda Miami chapter in 1991, co-chaired the fraternity’s national convention that brought 15,000 people to Miami Beach in 1990, and was Brother of the Year for Miami and the state in 1998. Wilson is a board member of the Florida Grand Opera and the Lighthouse for the Blind and serves as a private sector representative on the Miami-Dade County Manager’s Finance Committee and is on the Visitors Industry Council for the Convention and Visitors’ Bureau of Greater Miami and the Beaches. He is also a member of the CVB’s black scholarship advisory group.He is often a speaker for national and regional groups, lecturing around the country on investments, financial planning, wealth accumulation and transfer, strategies for buying a business, strategic financing, current economic issues, and other financial topics. He has been a keynote speaker for the Black MBA Association, the Black Lawyers Association, and the National Association of Black Accountants. The Miami Herald and other publications frequently seek Wilson’s comments and expertise for their business pages.He has been frequently recognized for his professional and community work, earning the Up and Comer Award in financial services in 1989 from the South Florida Business Journal and Price Waterhouse. He was cited as a President’s Council qualifier for Oppenheimer Mutual Funds and a Leaders’ Club qualifier for the Guardian Life Insurance Company. Prior to establishing his companies, Wilson was a portfolio investment analyst at Southeast Banks, then was vice president at National Planning Corporation, a holding company for the Guardian Life Insurance Company. He consistently ranked among the top insurance, estate and financial planners in the U.S.Wilson is a member of the trustee board at New Jerusalem Primitive Baptist Church. A resident of City of Miami he is married to Cheryl and they have two sons, Jordan, 10, and Joshua, 4.
