As the Assistant Director - Finance, Dana is responsible for the financial operations of Miami-Dade County’s $4 billion water and sewer utility system. The system generates annually more than $400 million in revenues and provides services to most of the County’s 2.2 million population. Prior to this term of employment with the County, Dana was the Deputy Director of the Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department (a similar water and sewer utility system that is one-third the size of Miami-Dade County’s) where he worked for more than eleven years.
A licensed certified public accountant in the State of Florida and native Miamian, Dana has lived in Miami-Dade County since graduation from Florida A & M University with a B.S. degree in accounting in 1973. In 1980, Dana earned a M. B.A from the University of Miami with a concentration in Finance and Public Administration. He has been involved in numerous professional, civic, and charitable organizations, serving in various leadership roles. Currently he is President of the alumni chapter (Beta Beta Lambda) of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and its Education Foundation, an international organization of college educated African American men in Miami that are dedicated to the improvement of the Black Race. Additionally, he currently serves as President of Music Fest Miami, Inc., an organization that annually coordinates Miami’s musical festival that celebrates diversity in cultures in Miami-Dade County. Music Fest Miami is in its third year and has been observed over the Labor Day weekend with more than 100,000 people in attendance at the various area events. He is a founding member of the Greater Miami Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (1975) and currently serves as the treasurer for the Belafonte Tacolcy Center, a youth development organization in Liberty City. Dana also serves on the Vestry as the assistant treasurer of the Church of the Incarnation and he is also a proud Millennium Mover.
The father of two children, Shaquanda and Dana M. Moss, II, Dana is married to the former Carlenia Hudge and the family resides in Miami Lakes. An avid golfer, Dana spends what little leisure time he has in playing golf and reading books of successful African Americans.
